I ran a few searches and didn't seem to find anybody else who had this problem, which is probably a pretty bad sign.

I have an iPod here that was working completely fine and then at some point all the music simply "disappeared" off of it and it froze up. After resetting the iPod it is no longer frozen but the music did not reappear. Not a big deal, I figured, I will just restore it and start from scratch.

Now here's the strange part, the moment the firewire dock connector goes into the iPod it freezes. I can't move anything but the buttons still make their clicking noise. I can reset the iPod but the instant it reboots, its frozen. I thought it could be the cord but I don't have this problem with any other iPod that I connect.

Anybody every hear of anything similar?

Have you tried connecting the firewire cable without the dock?

Yes, I'm just connecting the firewire cable directly into the iPod.

Trying to avoid as many potential hangups as possible.

Have you tried resetting the iPod by plugging it in to the power supply, turning it off, pressing the applicable key combo (depending on model), and turning it back on again?

Ahh not reseting by having it plugged into the wall, only while plugged into the computer.

I'll give that a shot.
