got an hd from my friend (3.5" internal drive) and bought a case for it.. installed the drive and plugged it in (USB2.0) and it shows up but is read only... it was formatted as an NTFS i as believe my friend had XP... how can i format this drive when its read only? or even just be able to write to it! its a hitachi (or whoever bought the deskstar name) 60GB drive... and a somewhat generic enclosure i got from newegg... i have moved that pin around so that the drive is both slave or master and it has no effect on being able to write... sorry if this is too vauge.. not really a hardware guy
It's read-only because the Mac only gives read-only access to NTFS-formatted volumes. (Writing to NTFS would require info from MS that MS won't share.)
The disk itself is not write-protected. Just launch Disk Utility and reformat it.
