they just blank waiting to be formatted? I found a Seagate Barracuda hard drive at CompUSA.com and in the item description it says that the platform is "PC". Is this true and, if it is, can it be reformatted for use on Macs?

No, they aren't formatted it all, it should work fine. Just put it in and format it with Disk Utility.

Cool. thanks! Is this a good drive? It's pretty cheap and don't know if there are issues with this line from Seagate. It is a Barracuda 160GB for $60.

I wouldn't buy any internal drive other than Seagate: they're the only hard drive maker that gives a 5 year warranty on consumer drives. (All the others give 1 or 3 years.)
