Hi all,
I don't know much about all this deal with Apple's DVD player not having good digital audio support (surround) but it seems like the firewive (http://www.griffintechnology.com/pro...wave/index.php) is great for people who are wanting to turn their minimacs into real HTPCs.

I don't understand what the short-comings are with Apple's DVD player program? Will this fix them? Unfortunatley, the page for the firewave leaves it incredibly underdescribed. I don't know what kind of ports it has or anything. Still, what do you think?

Thanks!
Gabe

DVD Player 4 (the version in Panther) fixes most of the shortcomings it ever had. DVD Player 4 does support surround sound (both Dolby Digital and DTS, I believe), but since most Macs don't have surround output, most people can't use it.

A device like FireWave adds the surround output, plus the Dolby Digital decoder.
