A couple of questions for the community regarding Bluetooth modules:
  • I'm thinking of ordering a BTO iBook with the BT module, but I'm concerned that BT 2.0 will become an option in the next couple of weeks (once the new PBs are announced) and I'd hate to miss my chance to get that in there (as opposed to BT 1.1). What should I do?
  • How hard can it be to install a BT module yourself, assuming you can get your hands on the part. I'm a Apple Certified Technician candidate myself, and I'll bet I could do it. But the chances of finding a BT 2.0 module and successfully installing it may be slim. Maybe I could find one intended for the PC laptop market. Yes, it would void the warranty, but if I could get that to work (assuming the specs match up), I might be willing to risk it....

1. We don't know that new PowerBooks are coming, and even if we did, there's no reason to believe the Bluetooth module has been updated.

2. I don't think there are any Bluetooth 2.0 devices out there. The 2.0 standard is too young -- in fact, it's not been published yet. According to the official website (bluetooth.org), the "current" version of Bluetooth is 1.2.
