I have bought a bus-powered drive that seems to be performing poorly with a Pismo500. The video playback stutters, and iMovie won't export smooth video to the camcorder.

How can I tell what kind of chip my enclosure has?

System Profiler should have this info.
Applications/Utilities/System Profiler
Apple menu/ About this Mac/ More info

then click on firewire and scroll through the available info.

Also what model enclosure do you have? Did you search for it online and see if the manufacturer has this info on their web site?
