At the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Toshiba unveiled its Bluetooth Audio Headphones, claiming a first in streaming audio from a Bluetooth-enabled notebook computer. Rather, the company is following in the footsteps of several Asian vendors and HP, but certainly chalks up a first in the marketing department by pitching the headphones as an accessory to the company's high-end multimedia notebooks.
Based on Bluetooth 1.2, Toshiba promises a minimum range of 30 feet, or 10 meters, having equipped the headphones with the A2DP and AV profiles to enable stereo audio transmissions. The wrap-around phones will work with Toshiba's USB Bluetooth 1.2 adapter or notebooks delivered with Bluetooth 1.2 built-in by the manufacturer and weighs in at a mere 3.2 ounces.
To provide up to eight hours of battery life, the Bluetooth Audio Headphones connect with one device at a time and can manually disconnect from one device and reconnect to another by simultaneously pressing the two volume buttons.
The headphones will be available for purchase in the U.S. on February 9, 2005 for $99.99 USD.
