is the wacom graphire3 6x8 the equivalent of a intuos2 6x8?

the intuos3 seems cool but the price difference between that and a graphire is significant and i'm used to using a intuos2 here at work. not sure how handy those control strips on the sides will be or if i'll ever use them.

there's a really big difference in tracking ability, etc... what are you using it for? professional or just hobby stuff?
-> 20" iMac Core Duo, 1GB RAM, lame superdrive that burns at 2x
-> MacBook Pro 2GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM
-> MacBook 2.16GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM

it'd be used for both professional and hobby use. here at work i use an intuos2 full time and don't even use my mouse, at home i'd use it for whenever i do freelance work which i don't do much. so i was thinking of just pulling it out whenever i do freelance and putting it away when i don't (my wife and daughter use that computer and have no use for the tablet).

if there's a big difference in the tracking then i don't think i'd like the graphire even though i wouldn't use it as much as i do at work....

FWIW, http://www.wacom.com/productinfo/differences.cfm compares the current products.

For the most part, the differences still remain. The Graphires are limited, though frankly, unless you want to use the various tools they sell for the Intuos line, there's not going to be much difference for most users.
