I got a Pioneer DVR-108 and put it in an external case, reading works, but when I go to about this mac, it says writing is not supported, what software do I need to install to get this working thanks? (PS I didnt have a dvd player/burner installed before which means the installer might have skipped some files) I am using 10.3.7

The drive will fully work in Roxio toast 6. For making it work with MAc OS X you need to install patchburn from www.patchburn.de

Thanks patchburn, has allowed me to burn DVDs and CDs, the only problem is how do I get it to play dvds? I got DVD Player using pacifist of the 10.3 CD but that didnt work, (says cant find a device), what should I do?

Hmm, no response, this is what I have learnt so far,

in 10.3.5 external dvds no longer work with DVD Player. Is this true? I downloaded a patch that should fix it and I will see what happens.

Also The dvd player with 10.3 is 2 versions below that of 10.3.7 which I am running, could this be it? I will use pacifist to extract the latest dvd player and see what happens?

For some reasone I dont think it is Apples DVD players fault because neither mplayer or vlc work either (they say permission denied)

Ok I figured it out 10.3.7 doesnt let you play dvds on external drives (why?) you need a patch for that UserOpPatch1.6 which changes the DVDPlayback framework to enable it again, to burn DVDs/CDs with iApps you need to install patchburn, Once you do that It should run fine
