Buy.com has an unbeatable offer for $79.99, plus a $5 off coupon -- shipped for this unit. Our 1240U has been great but the Z-lid plastic has broken (kids!) and we'd like to get another, and start shooting film (yes, I know, I should get a film scanner).

But the question is, have they improved the hinge, and build quality? My former work had the LiDE 50, I believe, and it seemed pretty sturdy, but my memory eludes me regarding the hinge.

Thanks.

I, too, am in the market for a scanner and would like people's opinions on the LiDe series.

I have this scanner and it works well. The software it comes with is ok, quick copies and scans. USB powered rocks. I do not scan than much, but for what I need it for it works. Have not tried any ORC stuff so your on your own there.
