Anyone been successful with being able to play xbox on Apple cinema display, the new models? Just curious what would need to be done in order to make this happen. Or would that involve some type of connection with the powermac itself?

I think that there are only 2 ways to do so- one is to get a video-input card for your powermac and connect the xbox there, then some software solution would most likely allow you to play xbox on your display.
The other method is to get one of those console>monitor converters, they have video inputs and on the other side they have a vga output. You would then plug this into your monitor. Beware I think some of these devices do work with LCD's and some don't- so you would need to make sure first.
The catch is that the display only has 1 input in it? So either youd need a video-input card for your powermac, and have to have your computer on every time you played xbox, or you would need to constantly swap cables switching the input on the display (or maybe get an A/B switch I guess)
That said I have always wondered how xbox would look on a cinema display...

You'll need this thing called X2VGA.

I'm in the UK, so it might not be totally relevant to you, but I have my PS2 and Mac connected to my monitor through a Logic3 switcher box, it should be possible to get something similar and use an ADC to VGA adaptor. Basically its a runs VGA cable from your Mac to the box, and composite (red yellow & white jacks) cable from your console to the box, then you switch the screen from console to Mac. Image quality for the console isn't the best compared to a TV, but it works. I'll try to find a link later.

Here's what you truly need, forget about the X2VGA:

It allows you to plug anything with component plugs and display in beautiful HDTV resolutions on your computer screen. This is the ultimate adapter for you Apple Cinema Display.

My friend has an All-in wonder for his PC and has tried this exact method before and there was a small ( 1/2 - 1 second ) delay in the display. Not really bad but noticeable, I wouldn't want to try playing some intense action games with that set up.
I'm not sure if it has anything to do with ATI's MMC doing some extra work to cache the video so it can pause/rewind the feed. We couldn't find any way to turn off that feature and kinda gave up on using the XBox on his monitor.
Not saying this definitely wont work but I think the Xbox video adapter would be a much better option unless you just happen to have analog video input already.

If you throw your computer into the fray, you will never have true speeds when playing. It will always be totally frustrating. Use the method from the other forum and it'll work out.

Remember, the game has to be coded in HD. Depending on what size (res) cinema screan you want to watch it on, you might be better off using a TV. Playing Halo 2 on a high res cin might drive you nuts b/c it's only 480p/480i not 1080... I believe some of the dell monitors... like the 2005W ultrasharp widescrean 20inch have component/svideo in built in.

Wont work on an Apple Cinema Display - these are DVI-only creatures, and this device puts out an analog VGA signal.
