Following steps from another forum I can open the FA Porsche HDD (Firewire) enclosure.

I want to replace the stock 160GB drive and was wondering is there is any reason I could not put a 400GB drive in its place?

If that's possible should I go for the Seagate Barracuda or Hitachi Deskstar 7K400? Both are 400GB/8MB cache drives spinning at 7200 rpm. They cost about the same too.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Seagate has a generous 5-year warranty on their drives, that's what sold me over the 1-year warranty on the Hitachi drives considering they're priced about the same. Considering that I've had several drives die on me within 2-3 years, the warranty is something I look for when buying new ones.

I have a hitachi 160gig and a Seagate 200gig in my PC, both SATA. the Hitachi is quiet, but the Seagate is dead silent when idle. The Seagate is a bit louder when reading/writing, though. Overall, i'd definitely go with the Seagate, if only for the longer warranty.

Ok, thanks. It's 2-0 to Seagate. The longer warranty has sold it for me. Anyone have any ideas about the large drive compatability?

My guess is that it will be ok as 160GB is already considered a "large" drive (>120GB).

Anyone???
