Hi, I've searched the forum but had trouble finding something that can help in my situation.

I've had my iSight for about a year now and it has never given me problems until recently. The video signals are all messed up now when I turn on the preview screen in iChat or when I try to start a video conference. The screen would be black with lines zig-zagging across it, like a tv that has not been tuned properly. Sometimes the video would be alright for the first 1-5 mins before becoming messed up for the rest of the time. Restarting doesn't seem to change anything.

This problem seemed to have started after I tried using Quicktime Broadcaster to record video with iSight (with success). The video is now similarly messed up in QTBroadcaster too. This is so frustrating! Is this a hardware problem? Does anyone know about the warranty on iSight? I don't remember there being one. Please help! Many thanks!

All Apple hardware has a 1 year warranty. Try using the iSight with another computer, if the video is still screwy, and it's less than a year old, call Apple.

Thanks! Apparently, any iSight that is faulty after 1 year is 'replaced' by Apple at a cost of $149 +shipping. *sigh*

wow, sounds like their original ipod warrantee.

you're in NY... are you near an apple store? take your isight in (showing it to an employee immediately so that they don't think you stole it) and ask them to try it of different demo machine.

it sounds like a software problem since you just installed a new app, but double check.

I think I just had the same problem you was having.

I unplugged my external firewire hub, which had connected to it my ipod, external HDD, eyeTV etc, and the iSight was working fine.

Just plugged it all back in again, and all seems to be ok - so far.

I had fussy green lines, and the video was totally messed up. If it happens again, I'll take a screen shot and post it here.

I've seen iSights that get screwy due to bad ram. Make sure ram is good.
