So I came back from class the other day set my powerbook down and plugged in my Fantom 120gig external HD and it wouldn't show up on my desktop....took it to work and plugged it in to various mac towers and other people's powerbooks and still nothing. I also tried using other firewire cables, nothing. The green power light is on and I feel vibrations from the HD so Im assuming the Disc is spinning. Is there anyway to recover my data? Any idea of what could of happened?

Does Apple's Disk Utility see the drive? Try repairing the disk with Disk Utility. If its a no-go, try Disk Warrior. These are the only two apps (at the moment) I trust with my drives.

Avoid Norton software for the Mac as if it were the Ebola virus.

but diskwarrior is probably what you need.
