Hi,
I'm looking to buy a Pocket PC PDA (no Palms). What does everyone recommend? What are good brands, models, etc?
Also, does PocketMac work well?
Thanks!

I have used a couple of iPaqs over the years and I've liked them. I'm using an HP h4150 now. The newer HP ones have really nice screens (VGA?) and are pretty handy. Be sure to get one with bluetooth and wifi built in. I think it makes it much more useful than having one without wireless connectivity built-in. PocketMac absolutely sucked for a while, but I just upgraded to the latest version and it is tons better.

Well. I just went for the Dell x50v (not easy to swallow my pride and buy a Dell, I can tell you). Seems to get good reviews, the specs are amazing (fast, WiFi, Bluetooth, VGA res, and the possibility for VGA ouput, which I ordered), and the price is unbeatable. It's also a bit smaller than the equiv. HP (though I believe the HP is a slightly better buily machine). Will report back once I've got the thing! But I have to say ... I feel so dirty owning a Dell

I really like the latest crop of Dell Pocket PCs. Especially the X50V.
Or the Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket Loox but not sure if you can get that in the US?

Had the Dell x50v. Used the x50v. Liked it ok. Sold it to get my T3 back.
If you're set on a PPC, the Dell is the best value for the money. But I went back to my Palm, if that tells you anything....

It doesn't really tell us anything, unless you tell us WHY you went back to Palm?

Fair enough.
The Dell (and every PPC I've used before: iPAQ 2215, 4105, x30) were unacceptably slow. The instability of the device was inexcusable. Add a couple of programs and soft resets to get things working right were not uncommon. Conflicts between bluetooth and wifi. Not having enough memory to run wifi or bluetooth. Absurd errors like "bluetooth license expired" (wtf is that??) when BT is enabled.
Out of the BOX, "out of memory" errors when doing things, like using transcriber and wifi. Lack of support for the VGA resolution you pay for.
I could go on, but so many little things that didn't work right that it was not worth it. My Palm just worked and continues to do so. Sure it's not as exciting as the PPC but if it doesn't work well enough to be used reliably, what's the point?
But I never could play a 300 meg avi of Lost on my Palm.
