I stumbled across these babies recently and wondered if they would be compatible with my G5 (2.0 Revision b)
and how do they stack up against my sound sticks (revision a flavor).

The sound sticks are usb, but I was not able to determine the bose speakers.

Also being so expensive what would be a cheaper alternative or do I have speakers of comparable quality.

The issues I'm having right now, is my desk is cramped and I think I could better position the bose speakers. Additionally I think the bass unit seems a little weak with my sound sticks (I have it on the floor on carpeting.

I have SoundSticks and Bose Companions - the Bose are superior by far - only analog input on Bose.

That's if you can get past the hissing from the Bose speakers... I got two sets with that problem, then gave up. Also, there was inconsistent finish on the satellites--chipped finish, ugly corners... My point: get them from a place with a good refund policy (Best Buy).

IMO, Bose is not that great--their upper-level stuff is okay, but their cheap stuff seems kinda...cheap. They try to use a lot of tricky engineering to make stuff sound better, but the benefit is debatable. However, if you try the Bose and like them, more power to you.

I really think Logitech and Klipsch have a much better reputation--and product--than Bose in the multimedia speakers segment (and Klipsch has a better speakers in the home audio field, in the opinion of many).

i was quite impressed with the bose companion 3s, they had a full range of sound and good mid-bass. the klipchs lacked mid range but the bass and highs were decent. With my discount, i work at bestbuy, i'll probably end up getting the klipchs because they are cheaper but IMO the bose sounds better

No highs... no lows... must be bose

Seriously though get yourself a nice set of logitech or klipsch speakers... you'll be much happier. Though I do agree the bose set looks better w/ the powerbook/powermac... but the z5500s or ultras sound a whole lot better...

Well, obviously Bose has its fans, but audiophiles will tell you that their processing distorts the original sound. Comparing the Bose Companion3 to the Klipsch on a more objective basis, the Klipsch ProMedia systems are THX certified, meaning they faithfully reproduce sound. There are rigorous testing and approval measures for that approval, take that for what it's worth. No Bose speaker in existence is THX-certified, as far as I know.

Klipsch has been making very highly regarded speakers for a long time, but it's ultimately a personal decision about aesthetics vs quality.

it really comes down to personal preferance, as a car audio installer i've grown to hate bose products, however i was pleasantly surprised with the companions, which was a first.

Well it looks like Klipsch is the one to get. I like the idea that its THX certified and to be honest I'm surprised I was unable to find the specs on the companion 3 system, i.e., how many watts per speaker etc. It may be on their site I could have missed it. On various other sites, like bestbuy.com and amazon they are not published but the Klipsch is.
