I woke up this morning and amoung other bizzare behavior I am only getting sound from one side of my soundsticks... I've had these things since my B&W G3 and they have been good speakers. I thought that maybe some freak accident took one "tower" out but after switching the inputs the silent one worked fine while the other stood there silent.

So I went to System Preferences to look for a right - left control but under Output it says, "the device has no output controls"... which leads to my question...

Do others with soundsticks have any device controls? Such as right - left control?

I've never had a problem with these before and simply can't remember if these have ever had any output controls...

Thanks...

My sound settings has a left/right balance.

Here's what my Sound Preferences window looks like:

Well it means exactly what it says, there are no user-based controls for the speakers you're using. Either your line-out is going bad, the speakers are going bad, or the USB connector/cable is going bad. I would try the speakers on another system (Mac or PC as long as it has USB) and see if they work properly there.

Do you have a PCI USB card installed? My old Keyspan card did weird things like that to my Soundsticks, but my new MacAlly card works fine with them.

gosh, this used to happen under 10.28 or something for me, my soundsticks would do the same thing...

go into apps/utilities/apple midi setup and reselect the Soundsticks. Everything should work after that.

dunno why you're having this problem.. are you using 10.3.8?

good luck.

IceEnclosure,

Thanks... for whatever reason in the midi settings it was on 1ch instead of two... so that fixed the problem... and now the system prefs gives a right left option...

How that got changed I just don't know...

But thanks!
