I was looking for an internal drive to stick in my G5 tower, today, and I came across a 300GB Maxtor drive on Newegg going for $190 shipped. Apparently Newegg is having a one day sale, and the same drive costs $240 on Amazon. Not bad!

Anyway, I have heard great things about this drive, so seeing the sale, I jumped for it. Just thought I'd let you guys know in case some of you are also looking for a drive for your G5s. The sale ends at 5:30 PM PST.

Excellent price on this very fast hard drive. This drive easily keeps up with the 10,000 rpm Raptor due to its very high density platters, efficient NCQ controller and 16MB of cache.

I personally would go with a Seagate 7200.8. Seagate's are built to last and I have seen too many bad Maxtors, and never had a Seagate fail me. They also have a great warranty. Just my two cents.

No one maker stands out for reliability. I've had Maxtors die, and I've had Seagates die. Lots of Seagates, actually. But those were SCSI drives in a stripped RAID.
