I don't get why the "two-sided" printing option is dimmed out in the Print Layout section of the Print dialog. I'm trying to print a Word 2004 document double-sided, but I can't. Yes, I'm aware there is the option for printing odd pages, then the even ones, but there shouldn't be a need to do such a thing. I have a Laserjet 2100 and am using the built-in Apple printer drivers. The drivers on HP's site don't seem to be any different.

Not directly applicable, but might your solution look something like this?

two sided would imply that the printer can print on both sides with a single pass (or with clever paper routing, going through the unit twice without manual intervention/flipping)
