I'm trying to set up a backup system on an iMac G4 that's acting as a file server. I have a LaCie d2 AIT-1 turbo tape drive and the latest version of Retrospect with the latest drivers.

For some reason when I put a tape in the drive it recognizes that the tape is there, but then gives me 'Media Error' for status and doesn't recognize that there's a blank tape in the drive when the backup script runs. It also doesn't let me reformat the tape.

Anyone have any experience with this?

first you will need to try another tape to see if the first one is duff. then you can work out from there what the problem is.

what brand of tape are you using?

I tried it with two different tapes. I'm using Sony SDX2-50C tapes.
