I would personally love to see new black or aluminum keyboards and mice to better match Apple's PowerBook's, Mac Mini's, and PowerMac machines. It would be a nice small touch.
Apple is famous for taking their time. Maybe this is the case in this sittuation as well.

Yes, their PowerMacs used to ship with black keyboards and mice before Apple went and turned them white. A lot of people still prefer the black keyboards and mice, though, as it matches their setups better.
Their older black mice were quite nice, they used to have a cool red glow to them...

A BT Alu backlit keyboard is just what the doctor ordered. If Apple released this for $100 I'd soooo buy it ASAP.

All they need to do is replace the plastic bottom piece with an aluminium piece in the same shape, then it would look cool and match the G5/iMac/Mac mini.

Now *that* is an awesome idea! It would really distinguish their keyboard from others on the market (well that and the Apple logo on the Command key).

In my opinion the current mouse and keyboard match at least the Mac mini. It's not all aluminum, the top is white plastic. And I see more of the top than of the sides.
I agree that it not matches the pro products. I could imagine a consumer keyboard which would basically be the current one, and a pro aluminum keyboard with backlight, bluetooth and extra FCP/Logic etc. keys. But this will not happen, since Apple surely wants to keep the keyboard straight and simple…

A quick photoshop of the current keyboard with an aluminium base painted on (yes I know the reflection is still plastic!). Looks loads better to me, but what do we do with the mouse?

I think it matches pro hardware very well actually. The ACDs have white side panels, the PowerBooks have white Apples. White goes very well with Aluminum, see the mini. If you actually have pro hardware yourself, you see how well it fits.
