In continuing quest to free up space in my pockets, I'm looking at ditching my Palm Tungsten T and cheap-o work issued cell phone, and getting a Nokia series 60 smart phone to replace them both.

The only phone my provider offers is the Nokia 3620. Is this an adequate replacement for my Palm? It's much cheaper than an unlocked Treo 650.

I'm primarily intersted in:

Contacts
Calendar
Task List
Password safe (using SplashID, they have a Series 60 version)
Quicken sync

Other apps would be neat, but I have concerns about heavy network data usage, as I mention below.

I use a Mac at home, so I have a fair amount of faith in iSync's ability to handle most of that stuff. At work, we're currently in the process of moving to exchange. How well do the series 60 devices sync to exchange?

One other issue is that the only GSM provider in town (CellularOne, by Dobson) charges a buttload for data, unless you want to spend $80 a month for unlimited usage. How sad will I be if I'm not using Opera/IM clients/whatever because it's too damn expensive?

So, anyone do this very thing? Impressions?

i lived with a series 60 device as my only pda-type gadget for about a year and it worked fine. i'm not sure how will/if it will sync with pure exchange mail -- you may have to get your admin to turn on imap services for it to function properly. isyncing worked great, and BlueService (google it) added a quick and easy way to send files, bits of text, random objects and files to the phone. i have no idea about quicken sync.

caveats: i never carried around a palm regularly beforehand despite owning two (given to me when i was a palm intern).

Having had a 3650 (sibling of the 3620) and upgrading to a Treo 600, I would say the Series 60 does not even compare to the Palm. I could use the 3650 for simple stuff like checking my calendar and making calls, but anything involving data entry was a pain in the a**. On top of that, it would freeze often when checking my email (just checking -- not even sending). I wouldn't even compare the two when it comes to web browsing. The Treo is in a completely different class.

I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but the Series 60 phones can't compare to the Treo yet. They have a long way to go.
