Everyone keeps talking about how Dell uses the same LCD component as Apple, yet their display is half as much money (give or take). I'll eat my own **** before I buy a product with a Dell logo on it, but if someone else, someone like say Sony sold a 20" using the same component as apple's 20"... well I just might have to skip the Apple and go for that. Do any other companies use this component? Anyone know how I can get the manufacturer/part number so I can search around myself?

The Dell 2005 is made by LG - it says so in the documentation, which was mentioned in another thread, and some reviews have also mentioned it. I don't know about the other Dells.

Apple owns part of a Samsung LCD production plant but I don't know if Samsung is Apple's only source. Apple's enclosures are probably much more costly to make than Dell's, which are plastic, so that probably accounts for some of the price difference. But in terms of LCD quality, there's probably not much difference, if any.

Here's one review: http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=1918
