I'm thinking about buying a Dell 2005FPW monitor for my brand spanking new PB 15" (w/ 128mb vram) but the Dull website says: 'To optimize this monitor's performance, your system must be able to support WSXGA+ resolution 1680 x 1050' ... Can the ATI 9700 in my PB do this? Does it matter that much? (In my display preferences the highest resolution I can achieve is 1280 x 854.)

Yes, it can support that. The only reason the highest resolution in your display preferences now is 1280x854 is because that's the PBs highest and optimal resolution. Whether you run with the PB closed or open and dual monitors, you'll be able to run at that resolution on the Dell.

I (and no doubt many others on this board) use a 2005FPW with my Powerbook. Works just fine, and mine is TiBook 667DVI, so your brand new one should do very nicely.

thanks ... after all the rave reviews that monitor has received here and elsewhere I can't resist buying one. i'm not a big fan of Dell -- i had a dell computer that went through two power supplies, two cd burners and a hard drive in about two years -- but i figure its harder to screw up a monitor.
