So I just hear that EyeTV has HDTV support. I have an HDTV and a standalone TiVo. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a standalone HDTV TiVo recorder. But I like the ability to play songs and view pictures from my iApps on my TiVo so I don't want to give it up. BUT, if I had a Mac connected to my TV that could do the same thing, that would be perfect. So I started looking into the EyeTV 500, the one that can do HD. But I started reading the fine print. To get full HDTV in 1080i format with no loss of frames, it requires a dual G5 to run. Then also I couldn't find anything about Season Passes. For all of you out there with EyeTV's is it worth it? Sounds like I'd have to invest in an EyeTV 500, some sort of Component Video Out Card for the Mac (is that even available) and then a Dual G5 Tower. Is the interface anywhere near as good as TiVo's?

I wish someone would just come out with an iHome Server or something that was a DVD player/recorder, wireless integrated itself into your home network, allowed you to stream music and photos from your desktop and was as good if not better than TiVo with HDTV support and Dolby 5.1. One Box to rule them all. And if Microsoft did this to the XBox 2 so that it could also do video games? Damn. That's where these video game console companies need to be going! Imagine if Nintendo or Sony came out with something like that?

No, the interface is nowhere near as "wife friendly" as a Tivo. Mine thought the EyeTV was a silly toy, but she loves Tivo. I long for quality HDTV recording, but I won't give up the usability of a Tivo for it.
