I have a LaCie 160gb external firewire 800 drive. It mounts OK, and unmounts fine. I then push the power button to turn it off. All as it should be. But then when I turn it back on, it spins up but doesn't mount, I have to load Disk Utility and click the mount button.

Any ideas anyone? There's no drivers involved so I guess it's an OS X issue?

Try refreshing the Finder. If that does it, trash the Finder plist and all should be good.

Actually I just found a firmware updater on the LaCie site and fingers-crossed, it seems to have solved it. I didn't think my drive was old enough to need it but I guess not.
