A little over a year ago I acquired a 7200rpm drive for movie making etc, because all references in posts on forum sites kept saying that in rendering movies you need a faster hd for faster seek times. Ok that makes sense but what doesn't make sense is that there are heaps of preinstalled drives in new ibooks, powerbooks and the mini that have 4400rpm drives and or 5400rpm drives, in fact I have few friends with ibooks that create movies who reiterate that they have no trouble rendering their movies. So whats changed ? Has processor speed got anything to do with this equation ? I mean I have the G3 b/w 350 whereas my friends with the ibooks have mostly the 1 gig processors ?

I am definitely considering an upgrade machine at the moment, but of course it will be a difficult decision in the light of the old conundrum desire against most affordable !

It's not that the 7200 drive is required, but that it can speed up the process considerably, same with processor speed, 350mhz will work, but 1gig will be much faster.
