Hey all,

I recently found out my Powerbook has to be shipped back to Apple since one of the RAM slots is bad. The tech at the Apple store said to back my data up. Considering most of my 80GB drive is filled with really important stuff, I decided to buy an external drive case and a disk.

I ended up buying an Adaptec ACS-100 external USB2 drive case, and I put in a brand new Western Digital 80GB IDE drive inside. The disk shows up fine in Finder, but ocasionally on large copies, the file will just stop, and the activity on the external disk stops. Finder freezes, and I have to kill it and restart it to be able to do anything.

What could be causing the problem? I have the original Apple RAM in the "lower" slot (which is non-functional), and some RAM from Crucial in the "upper" slot which I know works properly. Could having RAM in both slots somehow confuse the system even though the "lower" one doesn't even report anything is in it?

This is extra annoying because I need to backup about 60GB worth of data in the next couple days... any help would be appreciated.
