A friend is selling her G4 and 17" display (like the one in the pic), and I'm interested in the display for my own G4, how much is it worth and what should I offer for it? The G4 and screen are about 3 years old (its a G4 800 'quicksilver').

Any idea? I think I've explained what it is I want to buy. If this should be in another forum, can somebody move it please? (I wasn't sure whether to go here or to the Marketplace forum...

You should do a search and see what they're going for nowadayze on ebay. Thats what I would do. I imagine you can buy one pretty cheap these days.

Good Luck,

Dunno if I over or underpaid for it but I just got a 15 in the same model for a little less than US$200. Perfect condition.

These are realy nice displays, with one major drawback. ADC.
The ADC connector although exelent with older G4's means that if you ever wont to use this display with a newer Mac (a G5 or a mini) you will require a 'relatevely' expensive DVI to ADC adapter (not the cheap ADC to DVI, to connect a ADC monitor to a non ADC Mac requires an adapter with a built in power supply).
I recentely sold my 17" Apple LCD to avoid any problems selling it later as the ADC equiped Mac's get older and older.

The display is 3 years old, the same as the G4 800 its used with. Good point about the ADC, it would be fine with my G4 but I'd have to sell the screen again with my G4 when I get a new Mac (she is selling her G4 and screen, I just fancied the screen for my own G4).

I just sold one on ebay that I bought with my Quicksilver 933. It was in perfect condition and I got $375.00 for it. Sold the first day of the auction when someone used the buy it now.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the Dell 17" UltraSharps (the only Dells to get) are $280 on sale right now. LCD backlights age, and get dimmer and yellower over time. When you can get a brand new display with USB 2.0 ports and DVI/VGA compatibility for that price, why pay more for an older less capable one? I know it's an Apple, but come on... I've worked with tons of them and they're not THAT nice. There are also Planars and NEC/Mitsu's around that price, $260-300. For my dollars, new LCD beats old LCD anyday. Not to mention the improvements in viewing angle, response time, contrast ratio, and overall brighness in the newer panels.

You can actually get decent 19" LCDs for under $300 now. The Apple 17" is still ridiculously overpriced, new or used.
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.
