I'm looking to buy a dvd burner for my g3 600 MHz, 512MB. os x 10.3 imac. I was looking at this one http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con....111&is=REG

but i notice the specifications ask for a G4 500 MHz processor. would it still work on my g3? Would it be worth it?

The link doesn't work.

Tell us a little about the drive. Someone here might already own it and can give you some good advice.

it should still work, though you may not be able to get 16x out of the drive if your machine isn't able to feed it enough data. i have a different external drive that works fine with an 800 MHz G3.

Note that if you plan to be making video DVDs, you really need a faster Mac. Encoding the MPEG2 video will takes ages (by which I mean hours and hours and hours per hour of footage).

If you just want it for data burning, it should be fine.

This month's Macworld magazine has a review of a bunch of FireWire DVD burners, by the way. It might be worth checking out before buying a drive!

xlr8yourmac has a few reports of DVD burners in G3 iMacs (I found 9).
