Can I do this so if a guest user tries to access my external drive they need a password? Also if I take it and hook it up to any other computer not mine a password is needed to acess the drive?

Thanks for any ideas

What you need to do it use Disk Utility to create a password protected disk image on the external drive. You can't password protect a drive itself.
