My lacie cdr 52x external FW burner is only year old and seem to be getting a lot of failures recently. I've tried different media, software etc, so think it's burner. I guess there is no definitive way to know it is though, huh?-- being that is will sometimes burn ok. Any tips from those who have been here before appreciated. thanks.

I'm not familiar with any software on the Mac that can do this, but on the Windows side, you could probably use the testing apps included in the Nero Burning ROM suite. The apps can do read tests on various media, and if its failing on most of your media, then it's a good sign that your lens may be failing.

On another note, try looking for an updated firmware for your burner. Sometimes, new firmware can iron out kinks.
