I want to upgrade to a fast sheet-fed scanner compatible with OSX. My goal is to create PDFs from tax returns and other business documents so that I can get rid of paper. My present scanner is a Microtek 5900, very sloooow and only marginally compatible with Mac OS (must be tweaked and worked around). Suggestions welcome. Of course, cost is a consideration, but not decisive. Speed & compatibility with OSX and Adobe PDF are important.

G4, 512 ram, 2 vacant firewire ports, 4-port USB hub. Local network (with a PC) via router and cable modem.

Any thoughts?

I'm looking for the same thing. I need a way to get rid of my piles of paper. I searched and searched and all I can see is the HP 5590 and the Microtek i700. I hear the HP drivers are terrible. I need to look for a review of the i700. It's pricey, but if it can get me out from under all this paper, it's worth it!
