Wow! new forums!

anyway, I have a microphone question for a G4 or a mac mini.

I have a reasonably good stereo microphone with two small inline plugs. don't know what they are called I think they are not RCA plugs ( like VCR/Stereo plugs)

Im trying to record with toast some buddhist singing bowls and then make CD's of the sounds for a meditation group.

Im hoping to get the best sound possible. I may use the mini as the G4 has all that fan noise.

should I get an adabtor to combine the L/R into one or does the mini take in stereo somehow?

how good can I expect the sound.

Hey MacNN: great new format!

You probably should have posted this in the digital audio video forum, but here is a quick answer:

You need to specify which G4 you're planing on using because most powermacs and powerbooks have line level sound input, not mic level, meaning that if your mic doesn't already have its own pre-amp, you will have to buy one.

At this point, the best way to get audio into your mac is a usb pre amp. DV forge sells a single channel pre amp for about $40, or you can get a 2 channel pre amp from m-audio for $150.

I’m thinking with my dipstick.

Mac Minis don't even have analog sound inputs and your powermac is line level only, so I would find a good usb pre amp if I were you. Or if you're real ambitious, you could get a pci audio capture card for your powermac, but usb is still a pretty good solution.

I’m thinking with my dipstick.
