Does the Official Apple Geforce 3 (the BTO Quicksilver one) work fine in 2x AGP macs? I have heard stories of 'screen flicker' with Quartz Extreme and flashed GF3's. Since a lot of people are using this card in the cube Im going to guess that it works fine in macs with ADC (ie GigE and later) but has the flicker problem with the ADC-less Sawtooth. Can anyone please confirm?

Or is the Apple card special in some way over flashed ones with regard to flicker?

Well, I have heard some reports about 'screen flicker' when people enable quartz extreme if they have PC Geforce 3's that have been flashed. However, lots of people have been using that card succesfully in some weird models, like the cube, so I'd guess that it'd work fine in apple's systems with ADC connctors. I'd try to get a confirmation from apple's marketing department before you decided to try an alternative means to your cooling problem.

However, your experience may be different than my own.

The flicker problem was (is) mainly with flashed PC cards. The official Apple OEM GeForce 3 shouldn't flicker even in a 2x AGP slot.

While Apple's official specs call for a 4x AGP slot, it appears to work fine in a GigE PowerMac G4's 2x AGP slot according to this report at xlr8yourmac.com.
