Just got a new G5 dual 2 GHz with 1.5 G memory and a single 30" Cinema LCD monitor. Card is the NVIDIA GeForcee 6800 Ultra DDL.

When my Mac goes to sleep mode and I wake it up by moving the mouse, the computer appears to respond with the fans speeding up and the disk drive running up, but the monitor stays in the sleep mode (white LED just slowly pulsates).

Nothing I have tried seems to wake up the monitor. I am forced to shut the computer off and restart. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Marv

Did you connect the keyboard directly to the Cinema Display or to the PowerMac?

Both USB Keyboard and Mouse are connected to the monitor, is that what I should be doing?

Try connecting both to the Mac directly.

Cool! That seems to help. I tried a 1 minute sleep mode delay and the display did come back.

I also noticed that the display poer button is set to wake/sleep the monitor.

Curious. My keyboard is hooked into my 30", with Apple's plain Jane mouse hooked into one USB port on the keyboard and a Kensington expert mouse trackball thingy hooked into the other USB port on the keyboard, and I've had zero issues with it waking up. G5 specs are identical: rev.A dual 2 GHz G5, 1.5 gb ram, 6800 ultra.

I'm willing to bet that while the specs on the computer are identical, the displays are running different firmware versions. That could do it very easily.

That could be. I also realize that my post had zero useful information in it, but I just like posting in threads relating to 30" displays. I figure if I try and at least make my post sound partially relavent, it's a hell of a lot better than a reply of "Hah! I have a 30" display too! It's killer! Worship me!" That wouldn't be very polite.

Well it did it again this morning. I had the computer automatically start up at 6:00 AM and didn't get to it until 7:30 AM (I have a 45 minute sleep set). Nothing would wake up the screen, just the computer.

I rebooted and it is working now.

One thing I have noticed is that the screen wakes up when the displays power light is on steady, but will not wake up when it slowly pulsates.

Still a mystery to me.
