Hello. I am a newbie to the Mac arena so my question is very stupid I am sure. First off I am extremely please with my Mac having just changed over from a PC. It is ROCK solid and I can't believe it. However I am quite lost on how it really functions. I am trying to cross reference but it is a slow process.

Sorry for the discussion before the question. Here is the question. Can a Mac use a CD-R drive that I used on my PC? Here is what happened. I plugged it in and it did recognize the drive but not as a writable drive. Does the drive have to have firmware built in for Mac? I hope this makes sense, as I said I am new to all of this...

Thanks in advance,

J.J.

Only certain drives are mac compatible. Most will work as a CD-ROM, but to use the burning features it needs to be supported by the OS. And be aware that when Tiger (MacOS 10.4) ships on 4/29 the number of supported drives will increase exponentially. What drive do you have now? Is it just a CD-R, or a combo DVD/CD-RW?

CIA thanks for the help! I follow you. Well, I have both an external CD-RW that is made by a no name and I have a Micro Advantage DVD/CR-RW. The new OS has me thinking.....
