Hey all,
Do they make a shiny silver ink cartridge for printers? My sister's making her own wedding invitations and really wants a shiny silver color.

They used to make silver foil that adhered to laser printer or copier toner.

The Alps printers haven't been manufactured for a few years. The MD-5000 series (metallic inks) go for about $400 on eBay.

Thanks for all the help folks. Do you have any idea what the silver foil stuff might be called so I could look around for it? Thanks!

I always knew it in college as Omnichrom foil.

Maybe your sister should ask professionals to print her invitations instead ...

Thanks for all the help folks. I found some good info for her. Oreo, a professional would obviously be the best choice, but unfortunately, she's on a very low budget, so she's exploring all her other options!

I understand
I didn't know about the foil, though, maybe that's an option. My best to your sister, btw

Paper Direct carries foil that can be used with laser printers or copiers (NOT inkjet printers).

IIRC, you first print out the invitation in black & white. Then you affix the silver foil over what you just printed, and run both through the laser printer (without printing anything). The foil will fuse with any toner on the original sheet. You then pull up the foil sheet, and whatever was black will now be silver.

I found the stuff very hard to work with back in the day (the foil is very thin and bends and wrinkles easily, and it didn't always affix properly), but things might have changed now.

For our invitation cards we used a fun trick.
(but it's not like silver printing)

Take the paper for the cards (we had rather thick black paper)
write the text (and probably draw something) with liquid wood glue (that white stuff in big tubes),
when that dries, spray the paper with silver spray-paint (we had gold)

it looks cool with the text being raised a bit. ( - like a photoshop ligthning effect)
but you can't use that for small texts, only for the front page of the card with rather big letters

I'm good at answering unasked questions...

This will not give the same result as printing in silver, but...

If you can make stuff look like silver on the screen, you can (probably) do it on paper as well. Ad i'm sure there are hundreds of tutorials in how to make silver texts in photoshop or gimp or any other image programs... That could be printed, and it migth look good,
but it migth as well look awful. On a dark background it could look nice.

here's one http://www.tutorialized.com/tutorial...onze-Text/4035
