Hey folks,
I was hoping somebody could help me with a printer issue under Tiger. My ML-1710, which has never had very good driver support no longer seems to work under tiger. I installed the latest printer drivers, but they seem to only work in Panther. Has anybody seen this problem, and if so, does anybody have a work around?

Thanks in advance for any replies...

My Samsung ML-1430 no longer works via Rendevous or Bonjour. However, if I directly plug in the printer, it works.

Also, if I try to select a wireless printer through Bonjour, the program I try printing through crashes. Office and Firefox are some examples so far.

Any help would be great.

Thanks for the feedback. I too can get mine to work with direct USB connection, but I really miss my wireless printing. I know it will be a long time or never before samsung gets around to fixing this issue so I think I'll be selling the printer on eBay. It's been obvious from day one that Samsung doesn't give two s**ts about Mac users, barely supporting the platform, and I don't feel like waiting another six months for another one of their poor print drivers.

Hmm, I don't know how big the difference is between the 1710 and 1740.
With the 1740, I have nor problems under Tiger.

Maybe try installing the 1740 drivers, and see what happens.

Do you have your 1740 connected directly or via airport? Mine works via USB but no longer operates through airport xpress.

I just upgraded to Tiger today on an iMac and experienced a similar problem. I first upgraded the simple way and, while my Samsung ML-1430 still showed in the printer dialog box, when I tried printing to it, nothing happened (other than the printer showing a stopped job). Using Printer Setup Utility to delete and then add the printer fixed that. But, the system was running very slowly, so on the advice of AppleCare tech, I re-ran Tiger installation but with "archive upgrade" being careful to preserve users and settings (or some option that is close to that and the default under archive upgrade). After that, the printer driver was lost. AppleCare was going to have me try something much more complex, but I found the Samsung download from 2003 when I bought the computer and printer and re-ran that package. After that, the Printer Setup Utility found the driver, though it was named "GDI for Puma 0.3" which sounds right since the Samsung installer is a beta release, version 0.3. Now it works fine, including on Bonjour (USB to an Airport Extreme Base Station, so it's shareable).

If anyone else is having the problem and wants to try it, email me through this system (I have that option turned on) and I'll send you the package and you can see if it works for you.

Just got a new PowerBook with Tiger and I can't get my Samsung ML-1510 laser working with it connecting directly by USB - although my old RevA 233mHz iMac has Panther on it and I can print wirelessly from my PowerBook using OS X printer sharing. The Samsung is connected by USB to the iMac running Panther. This is connected by ethernet to my wireless router. My PowerBook is running Tiger and is connected to the router by Airport.

Dunno about those printers, but my ML-4600 works fine after reinstalling the driver (for Panther). Prints fine from my iMac G5 via a USB hookup, and it prints fine from my TiBook over wireless (thru the iMac) too.

Hi coach,

i recently got the ML-1430. Samsung sent me a driver for it which I installed. But I can't add the printer. It doesn't show up in the list of printers, and when i go to the actual plugins in the Samsung folder, I can't add anything. I have a power book and run 10.4.5. How did you get your ML-1430 to work?

thanks,

Check w/ glidermarty who made one of the earlier posts. He ended up sending me the file he described above. Works perfectly.

I don't know if Samsung has corrected this problem yet or not.

I've got a Brother HL-2070N, which I've seen as low as US$120.00, that works quite well under 10.4.x. It has built-in Ethernet and Bonjour compatibility. And it prints pretty quickly, too.
