I have bought an external 200GB HD with USB2.0. Problem is, that I can't partition it properly. I tried it with 3 Macs - mini, PB, Cube (I know, USB1.1 only) -, they all recognize the disk, and Disk Utility begins to partition it, but then it hangs. I tried different partition sizes and file formats, nothing works. Same with MacOS X 10.3.9 and 10.4.

The disk is ok, because a PC has no problems with it. I can even mount a 32GB FAT32 partition on the Macs. But I don't get a HFS+ partition to work.

Any ideas?

Well, I found a solution - I bought another enclosure. This time one with Firewire. It looks like some IDE-to-USB controllers work with Windows, but do not work with a Mac. I guess it is a driver problem.
