My brother just bought a logitech pro 4000 web cam for his wife to A/V chat with her family.

This webcam IS Mac compatible (so it says on the box). I tried a couple of diffrent ways to get him set up via the phone last night.

So far we have come up with this:

The yahoo version of messanger(for a mac) DOES NOT support A/v chat.

iChat seems to want a Firewire web cam to work correctly.

So I turn to my fellow MacNN-ers for some suggestions and help. He needs the the A/V to work cross-platform, his wifes family uses a pc w/ some flavor of xp.

This program allows USB cameras to be used with iChat AV (it also allows computers that don't meet the the minimum standards--- ie G3, etc) I haven't tried it, but it purportedly works pretty well (just not with Tiger yet). I'm sure others who have used it can chime in... So, if this works, on the mac side, use iChat AV and the windows side use AIM (but must be running XP and the most current version of AIM)
good luck,
david
