Is it possible? I am on verizon, loved my treo but my big fat fingers didn't type so well, blackberry feels a lot better to me, and can type better, so I am thinking about getting one, provided it can pick up my .mac mail. Is .mac pop3 or imap? Or neither, I am not good with the types of email and the differences. Anything I need to know before getting one?

You can do both pop and imap with .Mac. If all else fails I think the newest Blackberry's have pretty nice web browsing so you might even be able to hit up the web mail interface.

on the blackberry site, they said as long as .mac is pop3 I will have no problems getting my email. I am looking at a used 7750 right now, think I am going to go that route. I am trying to figure out if it works well as a palm too? Calendar, contacts, syncing? I believe with pocketmac it will sync all of that?

You might want to check over at www.blackberryforums.com for that information, but my understanding is that it works fine with the MAC software (3rd party)

My .Mac e-mail works just fine on my BlackBerry 7100t. No problems, whatsoever. I have a .Mac account, a Cox.net account and the tmo.blackberry.net account which comes with the device. My 7100t grabs mail from all three accounts perfectly.
Off-Topic:
Now syncing to iCal is a whole other issue. If anyone has their BlackBerry utilizing iSync via PocketMac, please help a brotha out. See my other thread in this Peripherals forum. Thanks.

so ical and pocketmac is a no go? This may be a deal breaker for me But that it can get my .macmail, and access the internet, and act as a personal organizr, and not crash like the treo 600 I just got rid of...

My 7100t hasn't crashed once in about two weeks of use so far.
Surfing the web on a handheld is just stupid. It's slow compared to your desktop experience (duh!), but it can be handy to do a quick Google search or read the headlines on MacNN. I'm not (yet) addicted to the browsing experience.
The organizer features are top-notch... The best I've ever experienced on a handheld... And the syncing between my BlackBerry and Entourage, via PocketMac, is flawless and easy. If I ever get it to work with iCal/Mail, I just may be in heaven.

well, my BB is on it's way, being overnighted from verizon. I have a question for you, I am going to be using my .mac account on my BB, so when you delete an email from your BB and .mac account, will it delete it from the server, or do i then have to go on to .mac homepage or through mail.app and delete them again?
Basically, does it sync with email, you delete on BB it deletes, you move it to a folder, it moves to the same folder on the server?

I believe that is determined by how you set it up.
i.e., if you use the IMAP protocol on the BB, I believe you WILL delete the message on the .mac server when you delete it from the BB. As I understand it, IMAP seems to be somewhat of a 'sync' thing wherein it syncronizes your server (.mac) and clients (BB, computer, etc.). If, however, you use POP it will just leave the mail on the .mac server (so long as there is not a "delete after downloading" option that you select).
Try this... POP3 v IMAP4

I'm just wondering what sort of data access you are using with your Blackberry (especially DigitalEl). I'm thinking of getting a 7100g for use with Cingular but am a little confused by the service plans. There is an unlimited Blackberry data access plan for $49 but there is also an unlimited medianet access plan for $25. What is different about the plans ? Is there some special feature of the Blackberry data access that I would not get with Media Net ? Would I still be able to setup the POP email access, etc. and all the features of the Blackberry ? I'd use this for personal email accounts etc. ... no need to be tied into any corporate infrastructure. I'm just not sure what I'd be gaining from the Blackberry Data Access at twice the price.
