When I plug a flash drive (FlashPen Mini) into the USB port (iMac , OS 10.3.7),
it's not recognized - doesn't appear on the desktop - and the icon does not appear when I go into disk utility.
Please, what could I do? How could I format (?) the FlashPen Mini after it is connected to the Mac? I'm novice to the Mac.
Thanks.

Make sure that the USB port is working. Are you plugging it directly into the iMac or external hub? Often, the external hubs don't have enough power for a flash drive.

Are you certain the flash drive is working? Does it work on other machines? If the device is working on other machines, it should just mount w/out any issues.

Are you certain the USB port is working?

For the most part flash drives should just automatically show up on the desktop, though I have heard of some older first generation pen drives not working on the mac for one reason or another.

The G3 iMac only has USB 1.1 (it's almost five years old!).

yes but so does my powerbook 12", and many usb 2 storage devices work with it.
