I know Epson has fallen out of favor with many people (me included, truth be told -- I have a Canon Pixma 4000 that I love). But sometimes the company comes through! In addition to the Pixma, which I use primarily for photos, I also have an older Epson c82. I've had it for 2 years and it was a replacement (free) for a c80 that spewed ink everywhere.

All of a sudden Friday it ceased to print. I'd replaced 3 ink cartridges and no type could be seen, except for blue, the one color I hadn't replaced. So I called Epson, paying 10 bucks for a tech support call. (I wasn't happy about that, either!) Long and short of it -- they say the ink heads are probably clogged and it would need to be fixed/replaced. Then -- after they gave me back my 10 bucks, since they couldn't fix the problem, I got transferred to "customer loyalty." Epson gave me the choice of 1) $30 toward a new printer of my choice, and with current rebates I could get a printer comparable to the C82 for roughly $50 or 2) complete refurbishing of my C82. Epson will even pay shipping and handling both ways.

I've decided on the refurbishing, as the sole cost to me is my time and hassle of packing it back up. I do have another printer, but I like to have them both. And it will come back with new ink! And hey, that's a significant cost.

So after all the times I'd muttered expletives at Epson, I thought I'd pass on that the company is trying...

Haha... hey man sorry to hear about you're misfortune. I had a c80 that I loved for about a week before it started giving me problems a long while ago. I've since replaced it with a canon i950 and it still works beautifully after 2 years. I will say though that you might have made out. A complete refurbishing + new ink (which for epson printers isn't cheep by any means). That's not a bad deal! I'm happy to hear that you didn't get screwed because of a messed up product!

Oh, I'm quite pleased with the deal. Epson really came through. I think the company is hurting and that's one of the reasons they're doing this. People are leaving for other firms' printers.
