I have an Epson 740i printer. It seems to have a bad black cartridge (this has happened before). It's not out of ink but it won't print. How do I replace the cartridge?

Pressing the ink button does not work - since the printer thinks it has ink, the cartridge receptacle does not stay out in the tray so I can get to it to replace the cartridge, but moves back under the plastic cover, where I can't get to it. Is there a way to make the receptacle stay out so I can replace the cartridge without forcing it, since that looks and sounds like it would break the printer?

I've done this before with bad cartridges but can't remember what I did. Many thanks.
