I have a Plextor external 716uf DVD burner. It is the same as the 716a internal, I think.

If I want to install it in a desktop, how do I go about doing so? Do I just pop open the external case and connect it to the desktop like a normal internal drive? Is the cable already within the external case, or do I need another?

Yes, it is as easy as place the drive inside the computer, the computer includes the data and power cables, but, you need to know how compatible with the OS is that Plextor burner.
