I have just bought a plantronics USB headphone set for using Skype on my Powerbook G4.

Although I can hear the beep set up sounds on it I can't get it to speak and hear when on Skype. I've been into sounds on preferences and selected the Headset and put up the volume and mic input but nothing.....

Very frustrating, can anyone suggest where I'm gonig wrong?

I had a similar problem with a Logitech USB headset. Unplugging it and plugging it back in helped.

Had the same problem with the Plantronics DSP 500, and indeed unplugging/replugging made it work.
You might also experiment with changing the settings in the System Preferences panel so they DON'T use the headset for microphone.
