Hey -
I'm looking for great sounding speakers for my recentely bought 15" PowerBook. I'd like to keep the sleek style that Apple boasts with their product - but along with the aesthetic beauty, I'd also like great sounding speakers.
2.1 or 5.1, doesn't matter. I'm just in the market for suggestions.

You might check the Peripherals forum -- several threads there. Lots of folks like Altec Lansing 6021 for looks and sound, but I haven't heard them. Klipsch also come highly recommended by many there. Soundsticks II are good looking but I haven't heard them yet either.

Are the 6021 worth the price? How do they compare to the soundsticks?

Klipsch. Period. Best sounding computer speakers I've ever heard. And they should be, as Klipsch make some of the finest Home Theater systems and also make full-on Professional THX systems for Movie Theaters. Even their computer speakers are really high quality. I've read of people using the ProMedia 5.1 Ultra as a Home Theater system instead of the usual and more expensive A/V receiver and big speaker setup. For my PowerBook, I use the 5.1 Ultra with the M-Audio Sonica Theater and VLC, which decodes Dolby 5.1 in software. Really amazing sound!
Klipsch also make the ProMedia 2.0 for those who want a smaller and portable speaker system, and they model it with a PowerBook. They also make systems of 2.1, 4.1, 4.2, and the lower powered but full featured ProMedia GMX D-5.1.
I don't work for Klipsch, but now that I own my first Klipsch system, I can tell you that I'll be buying more speakers from this specialty company. Klipsch speakers have many die hard fans much like the Mac, and Klipsch has a rich history as one of the oldest speaker companies in the US.
From their bio: (lots more at Klipsch.com)
Klipsch is a globally recognized brand known for its ultradynamic sound systems for homes, computers, professional cinemas and commercial venues, including more than 100 Hard Rock Cafes in 36 countries and thousands of movie theaters across the U.S. alone. With a cult-status following of dedicated fans, Klipsch is acclaimed throughout the industry as an innovator that strives for excellence in the powerful, detailed reproduction of music and film sound.

I don't like Klipsch -- I think they sound muddy.
Altec Lansing's higher-end stuff is nice.
Don't bother with the oft-praised JBL Creature speakers, or the Harman-Kardon SoundSticks: they all put looks over sound. You can get the same sound for a LOT less money, or a lot more sound for the same money.

Hey tooki, I hope you're not leaving
About the Klipsch speakers, the only ones I can vouch for personally are the 5.1 Ultras. Mine certainly do not sound muddy. Nor do they sound overly bright like many other speakers I've listened to. The dual firing sub especially is good. Bass is rich and tight, and not boomy.
Really the best course would be to listen to and compare speakers at a shop, although that's not always easy.
