In an unjustifiable attempt to clean my desktop of clutter, I am looking to invest in a wireless mouse. I've been reading the past threads and have come to the conclusion that the two best mice on the market right now are the mx1000 and the mx900.

I read that the mx900 will work through bluetooth but has some driver problems with the mac. I have powerbook - so the bluetooth will be nice.

Both of them require a basestation to rest on my desk, which makes me alittle skeptical because I'm trying to remove extraneous things from my deskspace, not add them.

Can anyone recommend other mice, or tell me about these two?

Well, both are great mouses, but there are a few key differences. Because the mx900 is bluetooth, it means that it will take a couple of seconds to "wake up" before using it each time. I used to have a bluetooth mouse before, and this delay gets annoying after a while. However, the plus side is that you won't have any cables attached to your powerbook. The mx1000 is great and probably what I will end up purchasing, because it does not have that delay. It does though have to be connected to a USB port, to my understanding.

Logitech makes the best mouses, and I think these are your two best options. However, check out cnet reviews for some more choices: http://reviews.cnet.com/Mice/4502-31...l?tag=dir.mice

Oh, and the basestation for the mx900 is probably just for charging. That's why you need one on your desk (or under it if it gets in the way).
Powerbook - 15" / 1.67GHz / 1 GB / 80 GB / 128 MB video
Mac Mini - 1.42 GHz / 512 MB / 80 GB / 32 MB video

^ Correct. I do keep the charging cradle on my desk, though. Putting it on the floor would place it underfoot.

I had the same problem a couple of days ago when my little mouse frayed its cords and stopped working with my 12" Powerbook. I read all of these posts and went hunting for a BT device to eliminate the cords. I didn't want to carry a separate transmitter everywhere so BT was the way-to-go. After some haggling I bought a two button Macally BT mouse junior and I'm delighted with it. There's a delay in wake from sleep but most of that is from the hard disk spinning back up.

just so you know...you have to use the cradle for the 900 when it comes to charging, but not for using. Regardless, the thing is going to be on your desktop somewhere and honestly i dont see the 900 as a portable mouse to tote around. if i were you, i'd get the 1000...the new mold feels great and it's a responsive lil sucker inho.
