When I bought Tiger I also bought a 160gb Seagate hard drive and Macally PHR-100AC enclosure. I was going to start doing backups, but the hard drive would only work via USB, not Firewire. I did some testing and narrowed it down to the Firewire port on the enclosure. I sent the enclosure back to Newegg and just got the replacement back today. It's doing the same thing. I'm not able to format the disk (I've gotten several errors, most notabley the Invalid B-Tree node or something like that). Now I'm not even sure USB is working. Is it possible the disk is already bad? I suppose I could stick it in my PC and check that way, but so far this has been very frustrating. Is there something I'm not doing when I plug it in to the Firewire port on my new iMac that I should be doing? Let me know if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks.

I have had problems with my firewire enclosure too, the USB 2.0 works fine though, I bought a cheap $10 usb 2.0 card for my mac

Are you sure you have the latest firmware and drivers?

Yep, I made sure to get the latest firmware. I think I've come to the conclusion that the HD is bad. I think Disk Warrior may be able to fix it, but I don't want to buy Disk Warrior to fix a drive that's still under warranty (I don't need anything off the drive).

Silly question, but have you run the hardware test CD on your iMac to check the Firewire port?

No, but both my Powerbook and iMac work fine when I plug in the firewire cable and use the Powerbook in Target Disk mode. I assume that means both ports are good.

I had the same problem with the usb working but not firewire on the phr-100ac. I believe the fix was making sure the jumpers on the drive were set for master.
